Schools

Assemblies – 5 to 15 min quick presentations to introduce Fairtrade and inspire students to think about Fairtrade and find out more.  Usually present 3 very short issues with global trade, and 3 solutions that Fairtrade offers.

Class Talks – up to 90 mins looking deeper into What Fairtrade Is, how it works, and why we should consider this.  Can relate to specific areas such as Social Sciences, Ecomonics or Business Studies.  Darren has run sessions for school students ages 8 – 18.  If there are specific areas of learning required Darren is happy to address these.

Church Groups

Darren is happy to present to a wide range of Church groups, exploring the biblical call for Christians to ‘act justly’.  Darren has spoken to groups of all ages, including youth groups, womens groups, mens groups, as well as preaching at Sunday Services.

Community Groups and Service Organisations

Up to 90 min talks, Darren can customize presentations to relate to each group – ie a Women in Business club presentation focused on the way Fairtrade helps women in developing countries.  For a Sustainable living group the focus was on the impact of Fairtrade on the environment.

Darren ran workshops around the issues of sweatshops and how important it is to consider where you purchase goods from.  The feedback from the students was overwhelming.  As teachers we had spent the previous 8 weeks trying to convey a message that seemed to reach few, but the presentations that Darren provided had a huge impact on the students with a number of students keen to take action”

“Darren presented a message at our church recently on the topic of The Christian and Fair trade. This was part of a six week series on social justice. Darren's presentation was informative, interactive, well researched and well presented.   His input inspired some great discussion, motivated people to simple yet effective action and further opened peoples minds to our responsibility as Christian to act justly.”

“We had been finding out about ways to live more sustainably locally and we wanted to explore the idea that our shopping choices have an impact around the world.  Darren not only spoke of the impact of “free” and “fair” trade, but he shared with us his enthusiasm for setting up a company to import fairly traded clothing into New Zealand.  The group were very impressed with Darren’s honesty and enthusiasm; and the way that he could empathise with producers overseas whilst being realistic about market opportunities here.  There was a great sharing of understanding about the issues which was a valuable part of our “Think Global Act Local” philosophy.”

“Darren gave a presentation about fair trade to a group of interested students at my school during fair trade fortnight.  His passion for fair trade was evident because he clearly knew what he was talking about and was able to answer any questions we asked.  As a result of that presentation I was inspired to do some of my own research and shared what I found with my classmates in a speech.  Because of what I have learnt about fair trade through Darren I now pay attention to where the products I buy come from and the conditions of the manufacturers.  Darren’s presentation on fair trade was worth listening to.”
